Our May 2020 Referral Charity Winner
Anthony Scorsese is our May 2020 Referral Charity Program Winner!
Anthony chose St Jude Children’s Research Hospital to receive the $500 May 2020 referral charity donation. He believes in their mission of providing help to children even if their families can’t afford it. He admires that they don’t give a bill to those without the funds and dedicate themselves to helping children.
Anthony was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Long Island after getting married and soon will be celebrating their 56th anniversary. Together they have three daughters, two of whom are identical twins, and four grandchildren.
Anthony worked for 43 years as a travel agent for cargo, also known as Freight Forwarding. Anthony moved between companies until a friend invited him to join his business, where they remained partners for 30 years. He eventually retired, moved to Florida, and has enjoyed the last 11 years here with zero regrets. Anthony spent the first year of his retirement, partying. He decided, if he wanted to reach old age, he would have to start doing something different. So he did. Anthony has been president of his Condo for the past 10 years and a Board Member of the Property Owners Association for 4 years and handles the landscaping for his 100-acre community. Anthony enjoys it, saying it “keeps him busy, his mind going, and his body moving.”
Aside from his presidential duties, Anthony enjoys several hobbies as well. One of his favorites is shooting pool. He often enters tournaments with his local communities twice a year for their winter and summer leagues. Anthony and his wife have also enjoyed many trips around the globe. They have been to Europe (15 times), Hawaii, Alaska, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the Caribbean. They have also enjoyed many vacations and around 12 cruises. Anthony says he’s enjoying this wonderful chapter of his life and that everything leading up to this moment was worth the effort of getting here.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of its founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Founder and entertainer Danny Thomas opened the doors to St. Jude in 1962 with the dream that “no child should die in the dawn of life.”
Unlike any other hospital, the majority of funding comes from individual contributions. And thanks to generous donors, families never receive a bill from St. Jude.
